Things you should know before buying a label printer

Label printers are devices that are used for printing on label materials, these materials are mostly self adhesive. Label printers are of different kind like hand held, PC connect, industrial and office. Some have full QWERTY keyboard while some have only printing mechanism. The one with only the printing option has to be connected to a computer to make it fully operational. Label printers are quite different from normal printers. Label printers have to print on materials that are different from paper and after printing they have to cut the material themselves.

Some label printers are described below –

• Handheld label printer – These kinds of label printers normally comes with fully functional key board and a powerful battery. They are normally used for simple operations and are very easy to use. Handheld printers are very useful in places like stations and malls.
• Office label printers – These are more functional then handheld label printers. Unlike handheld they can print multiple lines. Office label printers come with two power sources, a battery and an AC adapter.
• Industrial label printer – These are used for top quality professional work. The labels coming out of industrial label printer are water, oil, chemical, sunshine and scratch proof.
• Label printers – Label printers are used for medium sized applications like CD/Dvd Labels, File Folder label and address label etc.
• PC connect label printer – These are very functional and can also be linked to computers database. PC connect label printer can print each and every thing that can be created on the computer.

Label printers can be divided into several categories like impact, laser and thermal label printer. Out of the three, thermal label printer is the most widely used. Thermal label printers can be further divided into categories like Direct Thermal and thermal transfer label printers. While choosing a label printer, keep important things in mind like budget, type of label printer that you need and reliability of the product and brand. As mentioned above there are many types of label printers and each has its own set of strengths, so you have to decide very carefully the kind of work that you want to do with your printer. Brand is also important, a good brand may charge a premium but they will deliver a high quality product.
