Transporting an iMac 20″ overseas via commercial airline?

I’m flying over to singapore for 2 years, and I have an iMac 20″ that I want to bring with me. Should I carry it onto the plane? And if so what can I use to carry it , and what measures can I take to prevent any excessive damage to the iMac?

If you can carry it in by all means do that, but for many airlines it would be to large for carry on baggage, meaning it must go in the hold. If thats the case, try and make it obvious what it is, and if you have the original box use that. when us baggage handlers know what something is we are less likely to damage it, opposed to when its hidden in a suitcase. pad it well, make it obvious its a computer, and put fragile stickers on it. if your fairly techy with computers remove the hard drive, as this is the part you dont want dropped or damaged coz it will scratch itself (im not sure if you can on a iMac as i dont own one)…
