How do you remove permanent marker from sheets and clothes?

My 6 year old decided to color on her white butterfly sheets with a black permanent marker leaving spots. Most recently, she visited her mom and her mom let her color in the car with permanent markers leaving a colorful mess on her clothes. What is the best way to remove the marker?
I’ve learned with a 6 year old that every stain can be removed, you just have to find the right product. Thanks to everyone who had a real suggestion. I did some more looking online and hair spray has lightened the stain.
