So, as these materials sit in a landfill, over time the natural elements of rain, sleet, snow, and whatever else may happen upon them starts to change these residual materials into a toxic liquid. This toxic liquid ends up running down through the other materials and penetrating the ground. Then, the toxic chemicals end up trickling down into the water table and ultimately contaminating the groundwater making it unfit for any kind of human, animal, or plant’s consumption.
